Business Valuations

As specialists in business valuation, Morrison & Company’s approach is both theoretical and fact sensitive. We have valued thousands of businesses from sole proprietorships to multi-million dollar corporations in many different industries. To gather the information needed to value a business, we have invested in an extensive library and on-line services which provide the most up-to-date information on the market value of privately held businesses. In addition, since the information we need is not always available in the public domain or on the company’s financial statements, our forensic accountants gather information from a wide variety of sources. They also investigate the books and records of the company to find unrecorded income, improper expenses and hidden assets. We then use accounting and financial analysis skills to draw the appropriate conclusion of value for the specific set of facts and the specific legal jurisdiction. This distinction is critical, especially in a litigated matter where the same business can have a different value in a different jurisdiction or in another context in the same jurisdiction. After reaching our expert opinion, we assist counsel or the courts in negotiating a resolution without further litigation or give testimony on our conclusions in court.
